Why it matters
Search didn't stop working. It stopped being the only step. A buyer researching a web development agency now opens ChatGPT, asks for a shortlist with their constraints attached, and arrives at three names before they ever see a results page. If your site isn't structured for a model to read and quote, you're not on that list, and you'll never see it in your analytics, because there's no referral to track. The mechanics are different from SEO, though they overlap. A crawler needs to reach your page; a model needs to lift a clean, self-contained answer out of it. That means server-rendered content rather than a JavaScript shell, a direct answer near the top rather than three paragraphs of throat-clearing, consistent entity signals so the model knows you're the same business it saw elsewhere, and structured data that states plainly what you sell and where. Most sites fail on the first two. This test measures all six factors and tells you which ones you're losing on. It also checks something most site owners have never looked at: whether your robots.txt is blocking GPTBot or Google-Extended outright. A surprising number of sites block AI crawlers by accident, usually because a plugin default or a security config added the rule without anyone noticing. That's a total citation blackout, and it takes one line to fix.
- Citation-readiness verdict, Invisible / Findable / Quotable / Citation-ready
- Per-crawler access table, GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, Google-Extended, CCBot, Bytespider
- Prompt simulation, five buyer questions you should be the answer to
- Schema inventory, every type found, valid or broken
Methodology
Paste any public URL
We fetch the page the way a browser and crawler would, no login walls, no probing.
Collect signals once
HTML, headers, robots/sitemap, and optional Lighthouse lab data feed every tool from one pass.
Score with published weights
Each check has a fixed weight that sums to 100. N/A checks leave the denominator so empty pages aren’t unfairly punished.

Free AI Visibility Test FAQs
What is AEO?
Answer engine optimisation: earning citations inside AI-generated answers, rather than clicks from a results page. See our primer at /blog/what-is-aeo/.
Does this tell me if ChatGPT currently cites me?
No. It measures whether your page is structured to be cited. Live citation tracking across prompts is part of our paid AEO programme.
What is llms.txt?
A proposed standard, similar in spirit to robots.txt, giving language models a curated map of your site. It's not universally adopted yet, which is why related checks are weighted carefully.
Am I blocking AI crawlers?
The test tells you directly, per crawler, with the robots.txt rules responsible.
Is AEO different from SEO?
They overlap on crawlability and structure, and diverge on what wins. SEO optimises for ranking; AEO optimises for being quotable.
My site is a React SPA, will it fail?
Probably on AI-03, yes. Most models read raw HTML, not executed JavaScript. Server-side rendering or static generation fixes it.
